Workshop “Smartphone for Employability” – An Initiative for Young People in Local Communities

On January 16, 2025, we hosted the “Smartphone for Employability” workshop, organized by the 3D Youth Association. The main goal of this event was to develop the skills needed to successfully access employment opportunities using accessible digital tools such as smartphones.

This workshop is a testament to Adina Foundation’s commitment to supporting young people, especially those from vulnerable communities, by providing them with the necessary tools to build a better future.

Our journey and the outstanding success of the non-formal integrated educational programs would not have been possible without the support of Adina Stiftelsen Norway, local institutions, partners, and volunteers. It is only through their commitment, perseverance, and desire to do good, that we stand here today, ready to face the next 20 years.

Objectives of the Activity

The workshop was designed to address a real need among young people: preparing essential documents for employment and improving personal presentation skills. During this activity, young people from the Goiesti and Șimnicu de Sus communities enrolled in the V13 Program, had the opportunity to learn how to create:

  1. Traditional CV: Participants were guided on how to create a clear, well-structured CV that highlights their education, experience, and skills. This format remains one of the most requested by employers.

  2. Europass CV: Recognized internationally, this type of CV offers young people the opportunity to apply for jobs or educational programs in other European countries. Facilitators explained how to correctly complete this model and tailor it to various contexts.

  3. Cover Letter: Participants learned how to clearly and convincingly express their motivation for a job. The workshop included practical examples and advice on what a standout cover letter should contain.

  4. Video CV: This was one of the most appreciated sections of the workshop. Participants discovered how to use their smartphones to create an engaging video CV that reflects their skills and allows them to present themselves authentically and memorably.

Workshop Activities

The workshop was structured in an interactive way, combining theory with practice to maximize participants’ engagement.

Practical Sessions:
Participants were divided into small groups and worked under the guidance of facilitators to create personalized CVs and cover letters. Each participant received detailed feedback, and the practical examples were tailored to their specific needs.

Presentation Exercises:
An important part of the workshop focused on developing presentation skills. Participants were encouraged to practice answering common job interview questions and to present their video CVs to the group, receiving valuable advice on how to improve their communication.

Smartphone Usage:
Participants learned how to use free or accessible apps to edit documents and create impactful video CVs. This section was particularly useful as it demonstrated that technology could be a powerful ally in the job search process, even when resources are limited.

Initially, the goal was to offer financial and material support to children from poor families. However, as children grew, their necessities changed. Ove perfectly synthesized this development in his address. “Symptomatic for many of them were that they did not find interest in- or motivation to complete their education. We saw that a lot of children dropped out of school early and as grown ups they faced the situation that they lacked basic education.”

This marked a turning point for the foundation’s main objectives. It was now obvious that education, facilitating access to educational activities, and promoting personal development was the new target. “Education and raising awareness became key words. It all started with «Afterschool activities» for children at various schools here in this area……. The results came quickly. After a few years the drop out-rate from school came down to zero.” said Ove in his speech.

Impact of the Workshop

The impact of this activity was evident both through the enthusiasm of the participants and the results achieved:

  • Increased self-confidence: Young people shared that the workshop helped them overcome fears related to the job application process.
  • Practical skills: Participants left with completed CVs, well-written cover letters, and clear ideas on how to present their skills to employers.
  • Increased motivation: The activity offered young people a new perspective on available opportunities and encouraged them to apply for jobs or educational programs.

Gratitude and Future Perspectives

Adina Stiftelsen Foundation extends its gratitude to Tinerii 3D Association for initiating this workshop and to all participants for their engagement and eagerness to learn.

This activity once again demonstrates how important it is to invest in the education and development of young people from vulnerable communities. In the future, we aim to expand such projects, reach more young people, and offer additional training workshops to open up new opportunities for them.
